And, "How long until I start to see results" Let's discuss...
I think there's a misconception out there that just doing a keyword strategy and optimising your website that's all you have to do and you can sit back and watch the website traffic and increased conversions roll in...
Actually? Doing this is just the beginning of your SEO 'journey'. It's a bloody great way to start, but it's certainly not time for you to kick back.
Ya see - you have to go out there and actively promote your website online to get the SEO benefits; this can include:
- Obtaining backlinks
- Social media marketing
- Paid ads
- Email marketing, etc.
And before you do any of that? You gotta set some goals.
What does "success" mean to you?
Does it mean booking 5 new clients in a month?
Does it mean getting 50 email subscribers?
Does it mean seeing an increase in people downloading your freebie?
Or getting more blog post shares?
Success to one business could mean:
5 more enquires made from their website
an increase in website traffic by 5%
5 new backlinks
And for another business, it could mean
25 more inquiries from their website
an increase in website traffic by 50%
50 new backlinks
This is why it’s best to determine what ‘success’ means to you and set those goals before doing an SEO strategy (or as part of it).
How do you know if SEO is working?
My best advice is to regularly monitor your website, keywords, SEO & Google rankings. Closely.
Here are some key indicators and methods to determine if your SEO is working:
Keyword rankings
Google rankings
CTR (click-through rate)
Organic traffic
Conversion rate
Engagement/bounce rate
Blog post views, comments & shares
REGULAR AND CONSISTENT MONITORING SHOULD BE ONE OF YOUR HIGHEST PRIORITIES WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR DIGITAL MARKETING AND SEO EFFORTS.
It's important to track these metrics over time and set specific goals for improvement. SEO is an ongoing process, so continuous monitoring and adaptation are essential for long-term success. If you see positive trends in these indicators, it's a good sign that your SEO is working effectively.
If not, it may be time to adjust your strategy or seek professional help from reputable SEO’s.
Here’s a simple and easy tool you can use to track your website and SEO performance & plan your content marketing:
The Monthly Desktop SEO & Content Planner & Guide was invented to help business owners to learn how to track their website and SEO performance and to help them understand how huge a role your data plays in content marketing.
Why waste your time creating content and executing a marketing strategy without knowing what is actually working and what isn't?
Your data - even the simplest of data such as knowing what blog posts perform best for you - can save you SO MUCH WASTED TIME and energy on creating content that just won't work for you, or help you to convert your clients and customers.
The planner was created so that you could have it sitting on your desk or wherever you work every day, to constantly remind you to keep an eye on your analytics and keep you on track with your content marketing plan every single day.
When I created the planner, I didn't want a digital version of it as I thought it would just be another thing you had to do online and it would end up getting lost in your over-crowded Dropbox, never to be used and easily forgotten.
I'm also a good old pen and paper girl, even though I'm a digital girlie, I'm a huge lover of notepads, lists, and organising!
"This planner has everything I need to get ahead of the competition like tracking keywords, best performing pages, audits of website content... everything.
The 'how-to-use" document that I received with it is a god-send also. I'll be competing with the big businesses in no time!"
- Lauren Smith
So, how long does SEO take to work? The answer is, it depends.
But generally, you should start to see some results (again, results is subjective!) anywhere from 3-6 month, but it can also take up to 12 months.
